Community activities

The Fittie Gardening Group is well connected to other environmental organisations, allowing residents to join in with many local and national environmental activities including litter picks and animal surveys.  Recent projects have included;

Aberdeen City 24 hour Glitter pick

A great turn out for the Fittie leg of the 24hr ‘Glitterpick’.

Great British Spring Clean 2017

On Sunday the 5th March 2017, the Fittie Gardening Group took part in the Great British Spring Clean. The event had been postponed from the previous day due to persistent rain, but the sun shone on us on Sunday. The volunteers enthusiastically litter picked the whole length of the Footdee beach, giving the rocky sea defence barrier a thorough clean.

We also shifted many heavy buckets of dirt, weeds and rubbish from the neglected back alley behind Pilot Square and next to the car park. To the great cheer of all we were rewarded with tea, coffee, biscuits and chocs by the neighbours. We all enjoyed the clean-up, with some volunteers asking when they could turn up for the next action!

We appreciate the support of the Aberdeen City Council, who provided advice and equipment for our clean up campaign and helped make it a success.
