SUMMARY:Life Writing & Memory – writing workshop
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 29 November, 10am – 12 noon\nFittie Community Hall, New Pier Road, Aberdeen, AB11 5DR\nLife Writing & Memory – writing workshop \n \nAs the nights draw in, it’s a perfect time to reflect, write and journal. Get cosy in the Fittie Hall and join writer Emily Utter to explore life writing and memory.\n \nWe’re often aware of why we remember, but what about *how* we remember?\n \nDoes a memory jump out at you from nowhere? Or does it float in on a familiar smell or taste? Do you see it play out before you like a roll of film? Or do memories come to you in fragments – flashes? Is your memory detailed, visceral? Or is it more of a feeling – a colour?\n \nIn this workshop we’ll consider the ways in which our memories come to us, and how we can work with them to convey – through writing – an essential truth. We are not concerned with fact, but rather with narrative possibility.\n \nNo prior experience with creative writing required.\n \nTickets £15. Refreshments provided.\n \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/life-writing-memory-writing-workshop-tickets-1834064188359?aff=oddtdtcreator ( https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/life-writing-memory-writing-workshop-tickets-1834064188359?aff=oddtdtcreator )\n \nAbout Emily\n \nEmily Utter is a Canadian writer based in Aberdeen. She specialises in life writing and short fiction and her writing has been featured in publications such as Gutter and New Writing Scotland. Her writing was selected for the best of Canadian flash fiction anthology, This Will Only Take a Minute. \n \nEmily is the Writer-in-Residence at Aberdeen’s specialist palliative care hospital, Roxburghe House. It is this work that inspired her novel-in-progress, The Night Room, which was shortlisted for the Discoveries Prize in 2023.\n \nShe regularly facilitates workshops with local charities and organisations in Aberdeen and has taught creative writing at both North East Scotland College and the University of Aberdeen.\n \nhttps://www.emilykutter.com\n \n
