SUMMARY:Fittie Marine Energy Walkshop
DESCRIPTION:Sat 3rd October 2026\n2-4pm\nMeet at Sea Cadets, Pocra Quay, Footdee, Aberdeen\n \n\nThe short walk will explore the sights, sounds, places and traces of energy past and present, focusing on whale oil, oil and gas and renewables with some creative activities. Former whale oil boiling yards, oil and gas industry services and offshore renewables have all made their mark.\n\nFree. No need to book. Contact transects.orkney@uhi.ac.uk ( mailto:transects.orkney@uhi.ac.uk ) for more information.\n\nTRANSECTS is exploring the impact of marine energy transitions (whale oil, oil & gas and renewables) past and present for coastal communities in three case study areas (Orkney, NE Scotland and The Humber). Our team is taking a creative cultural heritage approach to marine energy transitions working with Aberdeen-based artist Kirsty Russell. In North East Scotland, we will be focusing place-based activities in Aberdeen and Peterhead.\n\nOur project team is based at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and University of Hull. TRANSECTS is a research project funded by UKRI and DEFRA. You can find out more about the TRANSECTS project and the UHI team’s approach on our webpage: TRANSECTS – TRANSitions in Energy for Coastal Communities across Time and Space – Archaeology Orkney\n\n
