In March 2022 a few residents decided to meet to see how we could develop and promote actions to address climate change within the Development Trust, the wider community of Fittie, and help the transition of the City of Aberdeen to net zero.
We were able to draw on ideas from a couple of workshops held in autumn of 2021 ‘The Good Ancestor’ and ‘Carbon Literacy’ run by Open Road (www.opneroadltd.co.uk) . We also felt we had built up some understanding, through our hall renovations, of how to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Since, then we have met quarterly and run a number of awareness raising events in the hall. Any Fittie resident is free to join the group, our current long term project is community energy generation with a shorter term focus on bike travel, specifically responding to residents who wish to increase their cycling confidence.
