Transects

Join the TRANSECTS team from UHI Orkney for talks and a workshop that focus on community energy stories about Fittie and Aberdeen Harbour.  Enjoy stories about whaling and whale oil, and a creative embroidery workshop.

Friday 19 June, 19:30 – Join Dr Jen Harland and Dr Sofie Illemann Jaeger talking about the history of whaling and its socio-cultural impacts.

Saturday 20 June, 13:00 – 16:00 – Creative textile workshop with Aberdeen artist Kirsty Russell. Bring along some of your own fabric that has a story or meaning for you if you want to.  Kirsty will also bring fabric so there will be plenty to go round. Tea, coffee and cake will be provided!

TRANSECTS is a research project exploring the impact of marine energy transitions past and present to support coastal communities as they face the current transition to renewable energy. UHI Orkney are examining how heritage, archaeology and creative practice can explore this in new ways. We would love to hear your energy stories!
